Dead Fairy

Character Design, Sculpting & Painting

About this project

A 7″ tall character maquette sculpted out of FIMO air drying clay & painted in acrylics.

My first three dimensional creation, I designed the character & made the sculpt so that I would have something to help secure my place on the Prop Making & Special Effects course at Northbrook College.

Process

I began by designing the proportions of the character using regular galvanised wire to form an armature, placing the paintbrush in hand to test the figure’s ability to stand free.

After completing the sculpt & finishing with paint I set up a fruit bowl as a still life set to photograph the character in the setting I had originally designed it for, painting a banana black.
