The Green Man

Sculpting, Mould Making, Casting & Painting (Finishing)

About this project

A 190x150mm resin cast of my second sculpt, pulled from a silicon mould & hand painted in acrylic for a realistic wood & bark effect.

This is my first oil-based clay sculpture & silicon mould, for which I created a fibreglass jacket.

Process

For my sculpt, I focused on developing a process for creating a realistic bark-like texture, to which I added some additional tree-like features.

For the mould I applied a silicon skin in two coats, a drip coat for detail & a thixotropic coat for strength, followed by a fibreglass jacket/mother mould for rigidity.

This I applied within a wooden frame to create a neat, level mould.
